LONG LIFE
We agree with Maggie Kuhn of the Gray Panthers that, "Aging
is not a disease; it is strength and survivor-ship." White
Crane encourages active, involved, and healthy lifestyles.
GOOD HEALTH
Our medical system spends millions on illness, but almost nothing
on prevention. White Crane promotes wellness through nutrition
exercise, education, screenings, activism, and friendships.
EMPOWERMENT
The first White Crane was a grassroots victory organized by
Jane Addams SeniorCaucus, which negotiated a partnership with
Illinois Masonic Medical Center to openWhite Crane Senior Health
Center in 1985 in a storefront. The center integratedoutpatient
medical care with innovative wellness activities, governed by
a board ofseniors, hospital representatives, and community leaders.
COMMUNITY
With over 500 members, White Crane forms an optimistic, multi-ethnic
community. Members serve on the board, volunteer, teach classes,
and participate enthusiastically in center activities.
